Leaving Prescription Drugs Behind for Good
Getting addicted to prescription pain pills can ruin a person’s life in so many ways. It can start out innocently enough, with a prescription given by a doctor for some kind of pain, but can lead to an addiction which seems to go on forever and spiral out of control. One person who sought help at Narconon was addicted to OxyContin and it was his downfall.
He said, “I got addicted to prescription pain pills after I had a car wreck nine years ago. From there it didn’t get any better. It was two years of a downward spiral, of chaotic behavior, robbing and stealing — to do whatever I could to get my drug. And it all just started from going to one doctor after a car wreck.”
He continued. “OxyContin became my drug of choice because it made me feel no pain, it almost made me feel superhuman, but I was soon injecting OxyContin into my veins. I was so high I didn’t want to see anybody, so I just stayed to myself. It caused me to lose my job and family. A year later I ended up in jail. My parents said I was either going to die or go to rehab. I said I wanted to go to rehab. I want to try again to change my life. So I came to Narconon.”
Narconon is a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program which has highly successful methods of getting people free from the horror of addiction. After a relatively comfortable withdrawal, the recovering addict does a sauna-based detoxification which flushes out drug residues from the system. The accumulations of these residual drugs remain stored in the tissues for a long time after someone stops using drugs, and can contribute to the activation of the cravings for drugs. Therefore it is really important to get them out of the body.
Another very important step of Narconon treatment is addressing the mental and spiritual aspect of addiction. The final step is effective life skills training where the recovering person receives a thorough education in life and coping skills. When he (or she) goes back home he must be able to deal with many different situations that life can throw at him. He must be able to restore damaged relationships and rebuild a life where he can be successful, and all without the use of drugs or alcohol.
For example, one of the courses is the Ups and Downs in Life Course. On this course the student finds out how to recognize personality traits of both social and anti-social people and thus be better able to surround himself with positive people — those who will support him in his sober life.
Many of those who come to Narconon are so impressed with the staff and how much they care for each person that they want to join the team and help others who deal with drug or alcohol addiction. In fact, this graduate of the program said, “My goal is to work at Narconon, so I can be like the people already working here. They really care about everybody that comes in. Everyone is special.” Experiencing the great relief in leaving drugs behind for good, this individual wants to help others do the same.
Narconon has a highly successful program that can take those caught in the deadly trap of prescription drug addiction and help them turn their lives around and be happy and productive once again.
