From Complete Despair to a New Life
Nicky knows what addiction can do to a person’s life and the despair an addict can feel. She had an up-and-down experience with drugs and addiction for fourteen years. But she has learned that this kind of experience does not have to continue for a lifetime.
Nicky said, “When I was seventeen years old and a senior in high school I started using cocaine. I tried to clean my life up because I knew it was wrong. I was good for a couple of years until I got addicted to prescription pain pills after some injuries I had. I went from that to smoking crack cocaine and taking methamphetamine. For the past four years, I was using drugs every day. I smoked crack and snorted meth. It affected my life really bad. I lost touch with my family and had legal problems. It completely destroyed me until I wanted to die. That is true.” She began to cry from the memories.
She continued, “One day I snuck into the house when my parents were going to work and I slept for a few days. When I woke up, I tried to have a conversation like nothing was wrong but my dad just straight up asked me, ’Are you on drugs?’ and I said ‘Yeah.’ He asked me if I needed help and I said, ‘Please!’”
After researching the possibilities, they found Narconon and learned of this program’s sauna detox and life skills component. They decided this was the solution and took Nicky there the next morning.
The Narconon drug and alcohol rehab program has been saving addicted lives for more than fifty years. Addressing the spiritual, physical and mental aspects of addiction, this program is highly successful in providing an addict with the best chance of lasting recovery. With a relatively comfortable withdrawal, a sauna detox that flushes out the toxic residues that drug abuse leaves behind and effective life skills training, this is a program that an addict can depend on to give him (or her) the opportunity to have a drug-free, productive and happy life.
The sauna-based detox is unique in that it employs a carefully worked-out combination of time in a sauna, vitamin and minerals and daily moderate exercise to eliminate toxins in the body. The drug residues are removed through sweating, and once they are gone, the person often says how much better and brighter he feels. Many also say that their drug cravings are greatly reduced or even gone.
Life skills training gives the recovering addict a complete and thorough preparation to go back home and restore and rebuild his life. The series of courses helps the student to learn what responsibility really is, how to improve conditions in his life and how to finally relieve the guilt he feels from his past addicted lifestyle.
Nicky said, “When I first got here, I still had a lot of drugs in my system. I went through withdrawal and I was kind of excited and kind of scared. But the staff here were very helpful. Most of them had gone through what I was going through and had been down that road so they are compassionate, caring, loving and they understand. They will help make you comfortable.”
Nicky is clean and sober now and has a new life. She decided that after she finished the Narconon program she was going to work at the center where she changed her life and help others achieve what she did. She said, “I absolutely recommend Narconon because it saved my life.”
