Climbing Out of the Trap of Addiction
These days it is far too easy for young people to fall into the trap of addiction. Nathan knows this to be true as it is exactly what happened to him. Beginning with drinking and then smoking marijuana, he eventually ended up doing heroin as his drug of choice. This led to the inevitable collapse of his life.
He said, “I was sixteen years old when I started using pot. That led to using other drugs. It had a big effect on my life. I started becoming lazy. My grades dropped. My performance when it came to sports wasn’t as good. I’ve lost jobs, gotten into legal issues because of all that. All this finally led to my use of heroin.”
When Nathan found Narconon, he knew he found something that was going to work for him. Narconon is a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program with a high success rate at achieving lasting recovery. Addressing the key points that keep addiction in place, Narconon succeeds where others fail.
Nathan said, “We looked around for a solution to my addiction and we saw some Twelve Step programs. But we looked at the success rate for those and it didn’t seem to be that great. So we called and talked to Narconon. Their success was a big thing for us and seeing how it helped others. That is when I decided we were going to give it a shot.”
A vital step in helping each person overcome the physical aspect of addiction is the Narconon New Life Detoxification. When a person first arrives, they come off the drugs they were taking in the Withdrawal Unit. While some slight detoxification does occur there, this step is entirely different.
The Narconon New Life Detoxification uses sauna time, moderate daily exercise and a generous proportion of vitamins and minerals to reach deep into the fatty tissues and flush out stored drug toxins. This regimen is effective in ridding the body of these toxins and by reports of those completing this step, often helps reduce drug cravings.
Nathan explains how the sauna detox was his favorite part of the Narconon program. “My favorite part was the sauna portion of the program. Once I detoxified my entire body, I felt 100 percent better. I gained ten pounds and my skin color was brighter. I looked a lot better! My energy level was off the charts. It was great!”
What follows this detoxification is a thorough series of life skills courses to help a person maintain this new sobriety. This series of informative courses is a journey of self-discovery for the recovering addict. He (or she) gains a lot of knowledge about himself, and he also learns tools that help him live a life without drugs. For instance, on the Personal Values Course, the student finds out how to shed the guilt he carries with him from his past addicted lifestyle. As he sheds the guilt, his depression lifts and he can move forward.
Nathan talked about how these courses helped him. He said, “Narconon Life Skills Courses gave me something I can use the rest of my life. They gave me a better understanding of who I am. I found out a lot about myself.”
The Narconon program is one of most effective programs available today for achieving lasting sobriety and getting on the pathway to living a fulfilling life without drugs.
