Narconon Response to COVID-19

Narconon Reception

At Narconon, we work dedicatedly to ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of our students, families, and staff.

As an international network of residential inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers, Narconon has over 50 years of experience providing quality care to those caught in the grip of addiction.

While Narconon is always concerned with hygiene and infection control, we have dramatically expanded our efforts in response to the current outbreak of COVID-19 and any possible outbreaks in the future. There have been no cases of coronavirus in any of our centers among our team or our students; however, we remain vigilant against the risk and prepared to address any potential case.

Narconon centers across the globe have implemented practices, policies and procedures to ensure the health and safety of our students. Below are just some of the precautions we have been taking to deal with infectious and communicable diseases.

  • Monitoring of the directives and guidelines released by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as local health officials, in formulating the following steps being taken by all Narconon centers:
  • Maintaining a high standard of hygiene including sanitization multiple times per day of public spaces, furniture, and all points of potential contact, using top-of-the-line hospital grade cleaning and disinfecting solutions
  • Educating and training our staff on infectious disease prevention methods and emergency preparedness procedures
  • Handling and disposing of hazardous materials and bio-waste properly

Additional, immediate actions taken by Narconon in response to the current environment include:

  • New applicants are screened multiple times for COVID-19 —including a doctor’s examination—before being accepted into a Narconon center. All new students—even if displaying no symptoms of the virus—are quarantined for a minimum period of one week. To ensure no one has a fever, the body temperature of all staff and students is taken daily with a non-contact thermometer.
  • Testing staff where appropriate, checking for symptoms or signs of possible illness and preventing contact with any person testing positive or with any possible symptoms
  • Increasing measures to remind staff and students about ways to prevent the spread of germs, including a special booklet provided by Narconon International that is made available to every student and staff and any family or community members in the area about hygienic practices
  • Suspending all non-essential visits to the center until further notice (only healthy employees, service workers and applicants enrolling onto the Narconon program will be allowed in our facilities)
  • Maintaining an increased social distance and discouraging any personal contact (such as handshaking)
  • Communicating regularly with families of those in treatment
  • Communicating with the local Department of Health as needed

Protecting the health of our students, families, and staff is of utmost importance to us. We believe that prevention measures and being fully prepared for any outcome is what’s needed right now. Narconon’s trained and experienced staff is prepared to both recognize warning signs and implement preventative measures to reduce risk.

We want all families and individuals who are in need of treatment to know that we are here and ready to serve those in need of drug and alcohol addiction treatment. During this time of public health crisis and an international pandemic, we want to spread calm and certainty that help is possible and that together we can get through this crisis safely.

We are confident that we have the know-how to manage these issues competently.

During this period, many individuals have been instructed to stay home as a safeguard for themselves and their families. Upon self-imposed quarantine, they may have discovered that a loved one is struggling with substance abuse and needs help immediately.

Making such a discovery can be overwhelming. We know addiction doesn’t wait and getting help for yourself or your loved one could mean the difference between life or death. We will continue to help those suffering from addiction and return them home safely and drug free.
