The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Narconon Proclamation

A PROCLAMATION

1991

WHEREAS: Inmate William Benitez founded the Narconon program 25 years ago inside the walls of Arizona State Prison; and

WHEREAS: William Benitez rehabilitated other inmates addicted to alcohol and drugs after successfully rehabilitating himself; and

WHEREAS: There are now 24 Narconon Centers located in the United States, Canada, Australia, Denmark, Germany, France, Holland, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom treating thousands of drug-addicted individuals each year; and

WHEREAS: Narconon is fighting the war on drugs through drug education/prevention presentations delivered in schools, juvenile facilities and community organizations and through the rehabilitation of those who have become addicted to alcohol and drugs; and

WHEREAS: The staff and many volunteers of Narconon have dedicated their lives to preventing our future generations from becoming victims of drug addiction and treating those already so afflicted; and

WHEREAS: Narconon Centers around the world have saved thousands of lives in the 25 year history of the organization;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, WILLIAM F. WELD, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim August 17th, 1991 as

NARCONON DAY

and urge the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this fifth of August, in the year one thousand nine hundred and ninety-one, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and sixteenth.
