Addiction Destroys Purpose in an Addict’s Life

What a Drug Rehab Should Have: Restoring Purpose

An addict has no purpose in life, unless you want to define purpose as having the objective of finding that next pill or drink. If an addict had dreams at one time, those dreams are now as good as dead. You won’t find a person addicted to drugs or alcohol talking about his (or her) goals of finishing college, building a family or creating a flourishing business. For someone addicted to illegal drugs or alcohol, the only thing important to him is to keep getting the high he so desperately seeks.

An effective drug and alcohol rehab program is the only solution to getting an addict on the right path—one where he has a real purpose in life and can work sanely at accomplishing his goals and dreams.

Meaningful Activities a Thing of the Past with Addiction

Anyone who has associated with someone addicted to drugs or alcohol knows that the addict has no meaningful activities in his life. In fact, an addict will frequently lose jobs, stop taking care of other family members, or if in school, quit. He does not participate in society but often just isolates himself. Getting through a drug rehab program that addresses the core issues of addiction is truly the only way to bring purpose back to an addict’s life.

Bringing Purpose Back to Life

The Narconon drug and alcohol rehabilitation program has long been delivering effective treatment to addicts and turning around broken lives. Those going through the program discover that old purposes are rekindled or new purposes developed. Narconon’s life skills training can accomplish this.

Jack was an addict who knows the misery of having no direction in life. He said, “I was using crack cocaine, alcohol, methamphetamine, and OxyContin. I had nothing. I was lost. I was wandering. I had no aim, no direction to go.”

Jack did the Narconon program and had many positive changes, getting his life back and becoming more in control of his future. He described his feelings once he completed the program. “Now that I have finished the Narconon program, I feel absolutely fantastic! I feel like I never have before. I have a sense of purpose in my life. I have a direction that I want to follow. I actually have goals that I want to set out and achieve. Because of the Narconon program, I have everything back. I have something to look forward to again.”

The Narconon program gives an addict the chance to get his life back on track and have a future to look forward to. Recovering from addiction means giving an addict a drug-free life where he can live happily and productively, and Narconon does just that.
